Review of Moss Point, Mississippi

WHAT???????????
Star Rating - 1/3/2013
I purchased a house today in Moss Point Mississippi and at closing I found out that where the house is located in Moss Point I will have to pay both CITY and COUNTY taxes, the city taxes are more than the county taxes totalling more than $3700.00 a year (20%)tax. The whole time during the loan process i had asked about the property taxes, I even went to the Jackson County Court house to confirm the property taxes had been paid and was able to verify the amount of the taxes that were being paid in the past to get a rough idea of what I should expect to be paying. Then at closing after I already had a huge amount of money invested (point of no return) I was told that I pay 10% to the county and 11% to the city? WTH? I have called everyone that I can think of why we have to pay for both, or why I was not informed as to having to pay both taxes........to explain, it may not sound so serious, but it has a huge bearing on my mortgage payments that I will be stuck with for thirty years.......

So, long story short, I would definitely investigate the property taxes for both COUNTY and CITY before I think of purchasing a property in MOSS POINT MISSISSIPPI, I am paying almost an extra mortgage note $330.00 per month just for property taxes on a home that is worth less than $150,000.00. This is a joke, surely someone will tell me soon that they are just teasing me................Even though I just closed on the house earlier today, I will be putting it on the market shortly, I cannot afford to just piss my money away in unfair taxes, I love the home that I just bought, but not enough to have to get a second job just to be able to pay unjustified taxes. I have read a few articles posted on line and on gulf live, and my understanding was that one of the taxes would offset the other to a total a 10% tax and the city and county would decide who gets what share, not that each get a 10% share of the value of my home, this is crazy. I understand why my house was for sale now, honest. When i sell this home I hope I can recover at least what I have invested but at this point I will settle for a short term loss, rather than suffering with this hardship for 30 years........Bye Moss Point, I will be a lot more inquisitive in the future......

Really Disappointed!
I came here from Maine believing that like Maine, my service dog would be allowed anywhere...
